Phone Numbers- Thanet
We will text back confirmation to you as well as what car and how long it will be.
If you are interested in becoming a private hire driver working for us on a self-employed basis, and have never done it before there are several steps that need to be completed and that you need to consider.
You need to complete an application with Licensing Department of Thanet District Council, during the application the following have to be completed:1. Criminal records check every 3 years
2. References needed at the time of initial application
3. Medical to Group 2 standard every 3 years
4. Undertaken and passed Knowledge test
There are several costs involved including the Criminal Records check, the medical test and an annual fee to the council for your badge.
The knowledge test is a multiple choice of 30 questions as well as describing landmarks and naming the roads in a scenario they will give you going from one point in Thanet to another. When you get your application form you need a taxi operator to sign it declaring that they will be willing to take you on as a self-employed driver- At Thanet Cars/Taxis you need to come and ask for Mr Karl Evans or Mr Andy Doody during office hours who will speak to you and see if we have spaces available for new drivers and if so they will then sign your application for you. You can then complete the process and once you have received your license and arranged a licensed vehicle come to us for training on the data despatch system we use as well as general guidance on doing this as career.
Be it full time or part time, being a self-employed private hire driver can be even in these times of recession a good way to earn either a living or an extra income dependant on the hours worked.
